Booking

How do I book a trip?

Booking a trip takes about 5 minutes through our online checkout process. Please visit the How to Book section for detailed instructions. If you have any questions, please Contact Us.

How far in advance do I need to book?

We advise you to book at least one month in advance in order to reserve a spot. The last possible day to book is three days prior to the departure date.

Are there discounts available for my trip?

Please check out our Promotions section for a full list of the discounts and promotions available. Also check out SandDollars, a referral program that gets you cash and travel vouchers for recommending your friends to travel with us.

Are there any restrictions to book a SnoworSand trip?

We encourage travelers from all nationalities and ages to join our trips. Whether you're an international student, a parent, a younger sister or brother, or a school administrator, you'll have an amazing time.

When will I receive my pre-departure materials for my trip?

Your pre-departure materials can be found in your personal SnoworSand account. After you book a trip, log in to your account and then click the “my account” link at the top of the page. Once inside your account, click “My Trips.” Select your upcoming trip and you’ll find all your pre-departure materials, from your confirmation pass to your “trip notes.” Please read your trip notes before you depart, as they contain lots of great info, including a detailed itinerary, weather info, a packing list and more. You can also update your flight details and track your SandDollars from your account.

Do I need a visa?

The majority of SnoworSand guests don't need to reserve a special visa before their departure date. In Turkey, guests must purchase a visa upon arrival at the airport for $20 USD or 15 Euro cash. In Morocco, guests are issued a free visa upon arrival at the airport. Please visit Project Visa for more details about visa requirements for your destination or Contact Us.

Do I need a vaccination?

SnoworSand trips do not require vaccinations.

What if I need to cancel my trip?

Please review our Terms and Conditions and Contact Us right away if you need to cancel your trip.

What is the cancellation/refund policy?

In most cases, if you submit an email refund request at least 7 days prior to the date of departure, SnoworSand will issue a 50% refund. No refunds are available within 7 days of the departure date. For more details about our cancellation/refund policy, please review our Terms and Conditions.

Airfare

Is airfare included?

Airfare is not included in the price of a SnoworSand trip, however we provide detailed flight recommendations that will help you find the cheapest and most convenient flight from your departure city. Please visit your specific trip page or visit our Flight Recommendations section.

When do I need to arrive and depart for my trip?

We recommend that you arrive as early as possible on the first day of your trip and depart as late as possible on the last day of your trip. This will give you the most possible time at the destination. Please note, we never plan trip highlights on the first or last day, so don't worry about missing important parts of the itinerary if you arrive late or depart early.

If I arrive late on the first day or depart early on the last day, what will I miss?

We often have guests arrive on afternoon or evening flights of the first day, so we never include any of the trip highlights on the first day. We also often have guests depart early on the last day, so we never plan trip highlights on the last day. As long as you are present during the days in between the first and last days, you will participate in all the trip highlights.

Are airport transfers included? If not, how much do they cost?

Some of our trips include airport transfers while others do not. Please check the appropriate trip notes (available on your trip page) to see if airport transfers are included. If airport transfers are not included, the trip notes will include detailed instructions on how to arrive at your accommodations via public transportation from the airport. If airport transfers are not included, please expect to pay between 5-10 Euros to transfer to and from the airport.

I can't find a flight. Can someone help me out?

We provide guests with detailed flight recommendations for their trip, available on the trip page and also in the Flight Recommendations section. If these recommendations don't work for you, please Contact Us and we'll do our best to help you find a flight that works for your schedule and budget.

During the Trip

What size is my travel group?

SnoworSand trips have a maximum participation of 12, with an average group size of 6-10. In special circumstances, we may allow 13 guests to travel.

How do I meet the group when I arrive at the airport?

Your trip notes will tell you if your trip includes airport pickup. If your trip does include airport pickup, your local leader will be waiting outside the terminal when you arrive with a blue flag displaying the SnoworSand logo. You will then transfer with your local expert to the accommodations to meet the rest of your group and begin the trip.

If airport transfer is not included, your trip notes will include detailed instructions on how to transfer from the airport to your accommodations. The trip notes will also include a specific group meeting time in the hotel lobby where you will begin the trip.

Who will be my local leader?

Your local leader will vary depending on the trip. All SnoworSand local leaders know their countries intimately and are tasked with treating you like a close friend. This ensures you feel safe and comfortable through the trip and get in touch with the local culture. You can see photos and short biographies of some of our local leaders in our Local Leaders section.

What kind on-site transportation do we use?

Depending on the trip, we use private min-vans, public bus, public metro, ferries, sailboats, donkeys, ATVs, horse carriages and camels. More information about on-site transportation used during your trip can be found in your Trip Notes.

If I'm a single traveler, will I be able to meet other travelers?

Yes! We have many single travelers join our trips who have an amazing time and make friends from all over the world. Our accommodations are organized on a twin share basis, which means if you are travelling on your own, you may be sharing a room with another SnoworSand traveler of the same sex. Some tours use boutique hostels, so there is a chance you will stay in a dorm room with non-SnoworSand travelers.

Can I join a tour a day late or leave a day early?

It's difficult to join on after a tour has started, however in certain circumstances we can make special arrangements. Please Contact Us with your special request and we will do what we can to help!

Activities

How much free time will I have?

We include lots of activities in the trip, but also give guests free time each day to explore on their own. Expect between 2-5 hours of free time each day. Also remember your evenings will be free for nightlife.

Can I opt out of certain activities if I want to?

In most situations the itineraries are flexible so you can opt out from activities if you choose. Please ask your trip leader to help make alternative arrangements. Also, please note that anything organized outside of the included activities will be at your own cost.

Costs

What is included in the price of my trip?

The price of your trip does include:
- Accommodations as listed in your Trip Notes (Available on your trip page)

- All on-site transportation as listed in your Trip Notes

- Sightseeing, activities, daytrips and cultural experiences as listed in your Trip Notes

- All breakfasts and additional meals as listed in your Trip Notes

- The services of your local leader as described in your Trip Notes

How much extra should I expect to spend on meals/optional activities?

Each trip varies in how much you will spend on non-included meals and optional activities. Please check your Trip Notes to see exactly what is included in the price of your trip and how much extra money you should expect to spend.

How do I get money during my trip?

Your bank card is the best way to get extra money on your trip, and ATMs are widely available at all of our destinations. We always recommend that guests bring 100 Euros in emergency cash to carry on their person in case their bank card doesn't work. Remember to call your bank and let them know you will be withdrawing money from a new country.

Packing

What should I pack on my trip?

You can find a full packing list for your specific trip in your Trip Notes, which you will also receive in your pre-departure materials (available on the trip page).

Is a towel provided at the hotel?

Some accommodations provide towels while others do not. Please check your Trip Notes to see if you need to bring your own towel. At some accommodations, you can rent a towel if you prefer to save space in your bag.

Are there baggage restrictions on my flight?

Most low cost airlines, including EasyJet and Ryanair, charge extra if you decide to check a bag in addition to your carry-on. Please check the airline website if you have questions about baggage restrictions. We advise guests to purchase an extra bag online ahead of time, since most airlines charge much higher rates if you wait until you check in at the airport to check your bag.

What kind of power adapter do I need?

The standard European adaptor (used in Italy, Spain, etc.) can be used for travel in all SnoworSand trips, including Morocco, Turkey and Malta. Please refer to your Trip Notes (available in the trip page) for more details about power adapters specific to your destination.

Are there dress restrictions at the destination?

It is advised to dress conservatively at some SnoworSand destinations, including Morocco and Turkey. Please refer to your Trip Notes (available in the trip page) for more details about dress restrictions and packing recommendations.

Do I need to bring a cell phone?

Yes. It is required to bring your cell phone on all SnoworSand trips, with your local leader's phone number programmed in. This is important in case your experience difficulties getting through customs, or become separated from the group at any time during the trip.

Health and Safety

What should I do to stay healthy and safe during my trip?

SnoworSand leads the industry in best practices for safety. For more information about how we keep guests safe, please review our Safety Policy. You can find all relevant health and safety information for your trip in your Trip Notes (available on your trip page). Upon arrival at the destination, your local leader will conduct an orientation and answer any last minute questions you have and ensure you are safe and comfortable during your trip.

What if my family needs to reach me while I'm on a SnoworSand trip?

They can call the SnoworSand office at 1.800.959.4592 or email info@snoworsand.com and we will provide a direct contact number for the local leader accompanying your trip. In most cases, our local leaders can be reached immediately, however the group may be in an area out of cellular range. In this case, we will notify our on-site coordinator and make sure you can contact the appropriate person as soon as possible.

Can I travel as a vegetarian or vegan?

Yes. Please let your local leader know about your dietary restriction upon arrival and he or she will make sure to accommodate you.

Can I travel with gluten intolerance or allergies?

Yes. Please let your local leader know about your dietary restriction upon arrival and he or she will make sure to accommodate you.

Accommodations

What hotel will I be staying at on my trip?

Once you book, we'll send you exact details of the accommodations for your trip. If you would like to know the name of your accommodations before booking, please Contact Us.

If I'm traveling alone, will I be rooming with another guest?

In most cases, single travelers will room with another SnoworSand guest of the same sex. There is no extra cost for single travelers.

Can I request to room with a friend?

Yes. Please send your room requests to us through the Contact Us section. Let us know which trip you are attending, the departure date and the names of all the travelers who would like to be placed together in a room.

Can I request a single room?

Single room requests can be made upon arrival, and may require an additional cash payment made directly to the accommodations reception.

How do I book additional accommodations before or after my trip?

In most cases we can help arrange additional accommodations if you arrive a day or more before your trip begins or depart a day or more after your trip finishes. Please Contact Us and let us know which trip you are attending and the dates that you will need extra accommodations. We will make the booking and you can pay the reception in cash upon arrival. If we are unable to provide you with the extra nights we will provide the name of a hotel you can contact directly.

Universities and Providers

Can faculty or staff attend a trip at no cost before recommending SnoworSand to their students?

We invite any of your faculty or staff to participate in one of our trips at no cost. We're confident they will have an amazing experience and understand exactly why SnoworSand can be great supplement to your travel program.

Will SnoworSand donate one or more trips to an event or raffle?
