Safety Policy
SnoworSand and its partners have been operating safe trips for more than 20 years. We lead the industry in best practices for safety, which we achieve through the following steps:
Liability Insurance:
All trips include a liability policy that covers guests during the entirety of the trip.
STEP Registration
Guests are registered with the U.S. State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
Smart Decision-Making
Operational decisions are made based on information from numerous sources, including the U.S. State Department, local offices, site directors and local staff, as well as university partners and local affiliate organizations.
University Awareness
We notify host universities when their students travel with us, and provide administrators with direct contact information to reach our on-site offices.
Global and Local Support Teams
We have 24/7 local and global support teams that monitor trips at all times and are available to assist in case a problem arises. Most destinations, including Morocco, Turkey and Spain, have fully-staffed offices. All destinations have full time site directors who are just a phone call away.
Emergency Preparation
Guests are provided with local emergency contacts as well as an action plan to deal with emergency situations specific to each destination.
Professionally Trained Leaders
Local trip leaders are emergency and first-aid certified, fully-licensed to lead trips at their destination, and available 24/7 to assist guests in need.
Multiple Guest Orientations
Guests receive a pre-departure health and safety orientation by email. Upon arrival, local leaders conduct an additional orientation to ensure guests are safe and comfortable throughout their trip.
